Method

Preparation of Ingredients

  1. 1

    Slice the Ingredients

Thinly slice the Italian beef, mushrooms, onion, and bell peppers. Mince the garlic cloves.

Cooking the Filling

  1. 2

    Sauté Vegetables

In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms. Sauté until the vegetables are soft, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 3

    Add Garlic

Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. 4

    Add Italian Beef

Add the sliced Italian beef to the skillet and cook until heated through, stirring occasionally, about 3-4 minutes.

Making Cheese Sauce

  1. 5

    Prepare the Roux

In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute until bubbly.

  2. 6

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue cooking until the mixture thickens, about 3-5 minutes.

  3. 7

    Add Cheeses

Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and softened cream cheese until melted and smooth. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Assembling the Sandwiches

  1. 8

    Prepare Hoagie Rolls

Slice the Asiago hoagie rolls lengthwise, but do not cut all the way through.

  2. 9

    Fill the Rolls

Spoon the beef and vegetable mixture into each hoagie roll.

  3. 10

    Add Cheese Sauce

Drizzle the homemade cheese sauce generously over the beef and vegetable filling.

Serving

  1. 11

    Serve Warm

Serve the Philly Cheese Steaks warm, with extra cheese sauce on the side if desired.
