Method

Meatball Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).

  2. 2

    Mix Meatball Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.

  3. 3

    Form Meatballs

Using your hands, form the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.

  4. 4

    Bake Meatballs

Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20 minutes or until cooked through.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 5

    Sauté Onions

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until soft, about 5 minutes.

  2. 6

    Add Garlic

Add minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring to a simmer.

  4. 8

    Simmer Sauce

Allow the sauce to simmer on low heat for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in fresh basil just before serving.

Sub Assembly

  1. 9

    Assemble Subs

Slice the sub rolls in half lengthwise. Place 3-4 meatballs in each roll, spoon marinara sauce over the meatballs, and top with shredded mozzarella cheese.

  2. 10

    Melt Cheese

Place the assembled subs on a baking sheet and return to the oven for about 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  3. 11

    Serve

Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, then serve warm.
