Method

Meatball Preparation

  1. 1

    Combine Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well blended.

  2. 2

    Form Meatballs

Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter.

  3. 3

    Bake Meatballs

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 4

    Sauté Onions and Garlic

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Simmer the sauce for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Sandwich Assembly

  1. 6

    Assemble the Sandwich

Slice the submarine rolls in half lengthwise. Place 3-4 meatballs in each roll, spoon marinara sauce over the meatballs, and top with provolone cheese.

  2. 7

    Melt Cheese

Place the assembled sandwiches under the broiler for 2-3 minutes, or until the provolone cheese is melted and bubbly.

  3. 8

    Garnish and Serve

Add fresh basil leaves to each sandwich, if desired, and serve immediately.
