Pasta

Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Cook Penne

Add the penne pasta to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 10-12 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the pasta, reserving about 1 cup of the pasta water for later use.

Preparing Sauce

  1. 4

    Heat Oil

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil.

  2. 5

    Sauté Garlic

Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for 1-2 minutes, until fragrant but not browned.

  3. 6

    Add Spices

Stir in the crushed red pepper flakes, oregano, salt, and black pepper, cooking for an additional minute.

  4. 7

    Add Tomatoes

Pour in the crushed tomatoes, stirring well to combine. Allow the sauce to simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  5. 8

    Mix in Basil

Add the chopped fresh basil to the sauce, stirring to combine. If the sauce is too thick, add a bit of the reserved pasta water to reach the desired consistency.

Combining Pasta and Sauce

  1. 9

    Combine

Add the drained penne pasta to the skillet with the sauce, tossing to coat the pasta evenly.

  2. 10

    Serve

Plate the pasta and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese. Garnish with extra basil if desired.
