Method
Cooking the Pasta
- 1
Boil the Pasta
In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add a generous amount of salt to the water for flavor. Once boiling, add the penne pasta and cook according to package instructions, usually about 10-12 minutes, until al dente. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- 2
Drain the Pasta
Once the pasta is cooked, reserve about 1 cup of the pasta water and then drain the rest in a colander. Set aside.
Making the Alfredo Sauce
- 3
Melt the Butter
In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter until it is completely melted and bubbly.
- 4
- 5
Pour in Heavy Cream
Slowly add the heavy cream to the saucepan, stirring constantly. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook for about 5 minutes, allowing it to thicken slightly.
- 6
Add Cheese and Seasoning
Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. If the sauce is too thick, add reserved pasta water a little at a time until the desired consistency is reached.
Combining Pasta and Sauce
- 7
Combine and Serve
Add the drained penne pasta to the Alfredo sauce and toss until the pasta is evenly coated. Remove from heat and garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
