Fried Calamari

Method

Fried Calamari Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Calamari

Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat them dry using paper towels. This step ensures that the coating adheres well.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix well to ensure that all the dry ingredients are evenly combined.

  3. 3

    Soak in Buttermilk

Pour the buttermilk into a separate bowl. Dip the calamari rings into the buttermilk, ensuring they are completely coated. Let them soak for about 15 minutes.

  4. 4

    Coat the Calamari

After soaking, remove the calamari rings from the buttermilk and allow excess to drip off. Dredge them in the flour mixture, making sure they are well coated. Shake off any excess flour.

  5. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test if the oil is hot enough by dropping a small amount of the batter into the oil; it should sizzle immediately.

  6. 6

    Fry the Calamari

Carefully add the coated calamari rings to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the calamari and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.

  7. 7

    Serve

Arrange the fried calamari on a platter, garnish with chopped fresh parsley, and serve with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
