Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Cook Fettuccine

Add the fettuccine pasta to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, reserve about 1 cup of the pasta water and then drain the pasta in a colander.

Making the Alfredo Sauce

  1. 4

    Melt Butter

In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter.

  2. 5

    Add Garlic

Once the butter is melted, add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  3. 6

    Add Heavy Cream

Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 7

    Incorporate Cheese

Gradually whisk in the grated Parmesan cheese until the sauce is smooth and creamy. If it’s too thick, add a bit of the reserved pasta water to reach your desired consistency.

  5. 8

    Season the Sauce

Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.

Combining and Serving

  1. 9

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained fettuccine to the skillet with the Alfredo sauce. Toss until the pasta is well coated.

  2. 10

    Garnish and Serve

Serve hot, garnished with chopped parsley if desired.
