Meat Sauce Preparation

Cook the meat
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and Italian sausage. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.

Add tomatoes and seasonings
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Preheat oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook the lasagna noodles
Boil the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and lay them flat on a clean surface.

Prepare cheese mixture
In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, the egg, and half of the grated Parmesan cheese. Mix until well combined.

Layer the lasagna
In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Place 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by 1/3 of the meat sauce, and a sprinkle of mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers two more times.

Final layer
Top the last layer with remaining noodles, meat sauce, mozzarella cheese, and the rest of the Parmesan cheese.

Bake
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Garnish and serve
Let the lasagna cool for 10-15 minutes before cutting. Garnish with fresh basil before serving.
