1. Prepare the Ingredients
Start by washing the heirloom tomatoes under running water. Pat them dry with a paper towel.
2. Slice the Tomatoes
Cut the heirloom tomatoes into thick slices, about half an inch thick.
3. Prepare the Mozzarella
Tear the buffalo mozzarella into large pieces, about the same size as the tomato slices.
4. Assemble the Salad
On a serving platter, alternate layers of heirloom tomato slices and buffalo mozzarella pieces. Tuck fresh basil leaves in between the layers.
5. Dress the Salad
Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar over the assembled salad. Season with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
6. Serve
Serve immediately while fresh, with crusty bread on the side if desired.
