Method
Meatball Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- 2
Mix Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined.
- 3
Form Meatballs
Using your hands, form the mixture into large meatballs, about the size of a golf ball (approximately 2 inches in diameter).
- 4
Bake Meatballs
Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until cooked through and browned.
Sandwich Assembly
- 5
Prepare Marinara Sauce
In a saucepan, heat the marinara sauce over medium heat until it is warm.
- 6
Assemble Sandwiches
Slice the sub rolls in half. Place 2 meatballs in each roll, followed by a slice of provolone cheese and a generous amount of shredded mozzarella.
- 7
Add Marinara Sauce
Spoon warm marinara sauce over the meatballs and cheese in each sandwich.
- 8
Melt Cheese
Place assembled sandwiches under the broiler for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- 9
Garnish and Serve
Remove sandwiches from the oven, add fresh basil leaves if desired, and serve immediately.
