Method

Brownies

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9 inch baking pan with butter or line it with parchment paper.

  2. 2

    Melt Butter and Mix Sugars

In a medium saucepan, melt 1 cup of unsalted butter over low heat. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in 1 cup granulated sugar and 0.5 cup brown sugar until well combined.

  3. 3

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

Add 2 large eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in 2 tsp vanilla extract.

  4. 4

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together 0.75 cup all-purpose flour, 0.5 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 tbs espresso powder, and 0.25 tsp salt.

  5. 5

    Mix Everything Together

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter-sugar mixture, stirring until just combined. Fold in 0.5 cup chocolate chips.

  6. 6

    Bake the Brownies

Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

  7. 7

    Cool and Cut

Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before cutting into squares.

Espresso Frosting

  1. 8

    Make the Frosting

In a mixing bowl, beat 0.5 cup unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add 2 cups powdered sugar, mixing well after each addition.

  2. 9

    Add Espresso and Milk

Mix in 1 tbs espresso powder, 2 tbs milk, and 1 tsp vanilla extract until smooth and fluffy.

Sundae Assembly

  1. 10

    Assemble the Sundae

Place two brownies on a plate. Top each brownie with a scoop of gelato. Drizzle with chocolate sauce and add whipped cream on top.

  2. 11

    Serve Immediately

Serve the espresso brownie sundaes immediately while the gelato is still cold and the brownies are warm.
