Method
Prepare the Dough
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, warm the milk until it's lukewarm. Add the active dry yeast and a teaspoon of sugar, stir, and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast, melted butter, and eggs. Mix until the dough comes together.
- 3
Knead Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Form and Fry Doughnuts
- 4
Shape Doughnuts
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out to about ½-inch thickness. Cut out rounds using a doughnut cutter or two different-sized round cutters.
- 5
Add Filling
Place a small spoonful of plum jam or Nutella in the center of half of the rounds. Top with the remaining rounds and seal the edges well.
- 6
Heat Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until hot (around 350°F or 175°C).
- 7
Fry Doughnuts
Carefully place the filled doughnuts in the hot oil, frying in batches until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Finish and Serve
- 8
Dust with Sugar
While the doughnuts are still warm, sprinkle them generously with powdered sugar.
- 9
Serve
Enjoy the doughnuts warm, filled with your choice of plum jam or Nutella!
