Method
Prepare the Cake Layers

Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugar
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

Bake the Layers
Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool the Cakes
Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
Prepare the Frosting

Mix Sour Cream Frosting
In a bowl, whisk together the sour cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.
Assemble the Cake

Layer the Cake
Place one cake layer on a serving platter. Spread a layer of sour cream frosting on top. Repeat with the second layer and add the third layer on top.

Frost the Cake
Spread the remaining sour cream frosting over the top and sides of the cake. Optional: decorate with crushed nuts or honey drizzle.

Chill and Serve
Refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
