Cake Layers

Sour Cream Frosting

Method

Prepare the Cake Layers

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

  3. 3

    Cream Butter and Sugar

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

  4. 4

    Add Honey and Eggs

Add honey to the butter mixture, followed by the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.

  5. 5

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  6. 6

    Bake the Layers

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.

Prepare the Frosting

  1. 8

    Mix Sour Cream Frosting

In a bowl, whisk together the sour cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.

Assemble the Cake

  1. 9

    Layer the Cake

Place one cake layer on a serving platter. Spread a layer of sour cream frosting on top. Repeat with the second layer and add the third layer on top.

  2. 10

    Frost the Cake

Spread the remaining sour cream frosting over the top and sides of the cake. Optional: decorate with crushed nuts or honey drizzle.

  3. 11

    Chill and Serve

Refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
