Prepare Wheatberries
Rinse the wheatberries under cold water. In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add the rinsed wheatberries and a pinch of salt. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 45-60 minutes, or until the grains are tender but still chewy.

Prepare Poppy Seed Mixture
While the wheatberries are cooking, toast the poppy seeds in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 2-3 minutes until fragrant. Remove from heat and set aside.

Add Vanilla and Serve
Finally, stir in the vanilla extract. Serve warm or at room temperature, garnished with additional almonds or dried fruits if desired.
