Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla. Mix well.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Combine the wet and dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool Cakes

Allow cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Hazelnut Praline Preparation

  1. 7

    Make Caramel

In a saucepan, combine the sugar and water over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves and bring to a boil.

  2. 8

    Add Hazelnuts

Once it reaches a golden color, remove from heat and quickly stir in the chopped hazelnuts.

  3. 9

    Cool and Break Praline

Pour the mixture onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and let it cool until hardened. Once cooled, break into pieces.

Chocolate Ganache Preparation

  1. 10

    Heat Cream

In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream until just boiling.

  2. 11

    Make Ganache

Pour the hot cream over the chopped dark chocolate in a bowl. Let it sit for 5 minutes, then stir until smooth.

Assembly

  1. 12

    Layer Cake

Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of chocolate ganache on top. Sprinkle with a portion of the hazelnut praline.

  2. 13

    Finish Assembly

Add the second cake layer on top and pour the remaining ganache over the top, allowing it to drip down the sides.

  3. 14

    Decorate

Decorate the top with whole hazelnuts and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
