Ingredients for Chocolate Custard
Method
Directions for Making Chocolate Custard
- 1
Prepare the Chocolate Mixture
In a medium saucepan, combine the whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and a pinch of salt. Whisk the mixture together until it's smooth and well combined.
- 2
Heat the Mixture
Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook the mixture, stirring constantly, until it begins to steam and thicken, about 5 minutes.
- 3
- 4
Cook Until Thickened
Continue to cook the custard over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon, about 5 to 7 minutes.
- 5
Melt the Chocolate
Remove the saucepan from the heat and add the bittersweet chocolate and vanilla extract. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and the custard is smooth.
- 6
Chill the Custard
Pour the custard into individual serving dishes or a large bowl. Cover with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface of the custard to prevent a skin from forming. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
