Method

Prepare the Bacon Jam

  1. 1

    Cook the Bacon

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels, reserving some fat in the skillet.

  2. 2

    Sauté the Onion

In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and cook until translucent (about 5 minutes).

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Add the crispy bacon, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, maple syrup, black pepper, chili flakes, and water to the skillet. Stir to combine.

  4. 4

    Simmer

Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low and cook for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened.

  5. 5

    Blend

Once thickened, remove from heat and let it cool slightly. Blend the mixture until smooth (or leave it chunky if preferred). Set aside.

Prepare the Burger Patties

  1. 6

    Mix Ingredients

In a bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix until just combined.

  2. 7

    Form Patties

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty.

  3. 8

    Cook Patties

In a skillet or grill over medium-high heat, cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired doneness.

Assemble the Burgers

  1. 9

    Melt the Cheese

During the last minute of cooking the patties, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and cover to melt.

  2. 10

    Toast the Buns

Lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster.

  3. 11

    Build the Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, layer lettuce, the cooked patty with melted cheese, a slice of tomato, pickles, and a generous spoonful of bacon jam. Top with the other half of the bun.
