Method
Preparation
- 1
Clean the Oysters
Rinse the fresh oysters under cold running water to remove any sand or debris. Use a brush if necessary to scrub the shells clean.
- 2
Shuck the Oysters
Using an oyster knife, carefully insert the blade into the hinge of the oyster shell. Twist the knife to pry the shell open, then slide the knife along the inside of the top shell to cut the muscle. Remove the top shell and gently detach the oyster from the bottom shell, keeping the oyster in its liquor.
- 3
Plate the Oysters
Arrange the freshly shucked oysters on a serving plate over crushed ice to keep them chilled.
Serving
- 4
Add Garnishes
Serve the oysters with lemon wedges, a dollop of fresh horseradish, and cocktail sauce on the side.
- 5
Enjoy
Encourage guests to squeeze lemon over the oysters or dip them in cocktail sauce for added flavor.
