Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes until smooth.

  4. 4

    Incorporate Boiling Water

Stir in the boiling water until the batter is well mixed. The batter will be thin.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cakes

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.

Chocolate Ganache Preparation

  1. 7

    Heat Cream

In a small saucepan over medium heat, bring the heavy cream to a simmer.

  2. 8

    Combine with Chocolate

Remove from heat and add the chocolate chips. Let sit for 5 minutes, then stir until smooth and glossy.

  3. 9

    Cool Ganache

Let the ganache cool to room temperature until it thickens slightly, about 30 minutes.

Assembly

  1. 10

    Layer the Cakes

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of ganache on top.

  2. 11

    Add Second Layer

Place the second cake layer on top of the ganache. Use the remaining ganache to frost the top and sides of the cake.

  3. 12

    Final Touch

Decorate as desired, then slice and serve the chocolate cake.
