Prepare the Beef Patty

Mix the Ingredients
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Form the Patties
Divide the mixture into two equal portions and form each portion into a patty, about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent them from puffing up while cooking.

Add Cheese
After flipping, place a slice of American cheese on each patty. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the patty is cooked to your desired doneness.

Slice the Vegetables
While the patties are cooking, slice the tomato and onion into thin rings. Rinse and dry the lettuce leaves.

If desired, toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster for a few minutes until golden.
