Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Ingredients
Rinse the fresh cranberries under cold water and remove any stems or spoiled berries. Peel and core the apple, then chop it into small pieces.
Cooking
- 2
Cook the Cranberries
In a large saucepan, combine the rinsed cranberries, water, granulated sugar, brown sugar, orange juice, orange zest, chopped apple, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir well to combine.
- 3
Simmer the Mixture
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency.
Cooling
- 4
Cool and Serve
Remove the saucepan from heat and let the cranberry sauce cool to room temperature. Transfer the sauce to a serving bowl or container and refrigerate until ready to serve. The flavors will deepen as it cools.
