Method

Brownie Layer

  1. 1

    Prepare the Brownie Batter

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large mixing bowl, melt 1 cup of unsalted butter in the microwave or on the stove. Stir in 1.5 cups of granulated sugar and 0.5 cups of brown sugar until well combined.

  2. 2

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

Add 4 large eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in 2 tsp of vanilla extract.

  3. 3

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 0.75 cups of unsweetened cocoa powder, and 0.5 tsp of salt.

  4. 4

    Mix Dry with Wet Ingredients

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips.

  5. 5

    Bake the Brownie Layer

Pour the brownie batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish and spread evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs.

  1. 6

In a separate mixing bowl, cream together 0.5 cups of unsalted butter, 0.5 cups of granulated sugar, and 0.5 cups of brown sugar until light and fluffy.

  2. 7

Beat in 1 large egg and 1 tsp of vanilla extract until well combined.

  3. 8

In another bowl, whisk together 1.5 cups of all-purpose flour, 0.5 tsp of baking soda, and 0.25 tsp of salt.

  4. 9

Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until combined. Stir in 1 cup of chocolate chips.

  5. 10

Once the brownie layer is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately spread the cookie batter over the top of the brownie layer, smoothing it out.

  6. 11

Return the dish to the oven and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the cookie layer is golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
