Method

Preparing the Fries

1

Cutting the Potatoes

Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Cut them into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick.

2

Soaking the Potatoes

Place the cut fries in a bowl of cold water and soak for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch for crispiness.

3

Drying the Fries

After soaking, drain the fries and pat them dry thoroughly with paper towels to remove any moisture.

Frying the Fries

4

Heating the Oil

In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

5

Frying the Potatoes

Fry the potatoes in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 4-5 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy.

6

Draining and Salting

Remove the fries with a slotted spoon and drain them on paper towels. While they are still hot, sprinkle with salt to taste.

Making the Umami Seasoning

7

Mixing the Seasoning

In a bowl, combine the grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, dried oregano, and dried thyme. Mix well to combine.

Serving

8

Topping the Fries

Once the fries are cooked and drained, sprinkle the umami seasoning generously over the hot fries.

9

Enjoying

Serve immediately while hot and crispy. Enjoy your umami fries!
