Brownie Layer

Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easier removal.

Melt Butter and Mix Sugars
In a medium saucepan, melt 1 cup of unsalted butter over low heat. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in 1 cup of granulated sugar and 0.5 cups of brown sugar until well combined.

Add Eggs and Vanilla
Allow the mixture to cool slightly, then add 2 large eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in 1 tsp of vanilla extract.

Combine Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together 0.5 cups of all-purpose flour, 0.5 cups of unsweetened cocoa powder, and 0.25 tsp of salt.

Combine Mixtures
Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Fold in 0.5 cups of chocolate chips.

Bake Brownie Layer
Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, smoothing it into an even layer. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.

While the brownie layer is baking, in a large mixing bowl, cream together 0.5 cups of unsalted butter, 0.5 cups of granulated sugar, and 0.5 cups of brown sugar until light and fluffy.

Add Egg and Vanilla
Beat in 1 large egg and 1 tsp of vanilla extract until well combined.

Combine Dry Ingredients
In another bowl, whisk together 1.5 cups of all-purpose flour, 0.5 tsp of baking soda, and 0.25 tsp of salt.

Combine Mixtures
Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips.

Layer Cookie Mixture
Once the brownie layer is done baking, remove it from the oven and spread the cookie dough evenly over the top of the brownie layer.

Bake Brookie
Return the baking pan to the oven and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until the cookie layer is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool and Serve
Allow the Brookie to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before cutting into squares and serving.
