Potatoes
Oil and Seasoning
Method
Preparation
- 1
- 2
Cut the Potatoes
Cut each potato into even strips, approximately 1/4 inch thick. Try to keep the pieces uniform to ensure even cooking.
Cooking
- 3
Soak the Potatoes
Place the cut potato strips in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and results in crispier fries.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the oil reaches the right temperature.
- 5
Dry the Potatoes
After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels. Removing moisture is critical for crispy fries.
- 6
Fry the Potatoes
Carefully add a handful of the dried potato strips to the hot oil, being cautious to avoid splashes. Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding. Cook for 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- 7
Drain and Season
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. While still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste.
