Pasta

Method

Preparing the Pasta

  1. 1

    Cook the Lasagna Noodles

In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt and the lasagna noodles. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Making the Meat Sauce

  1. 2

    Brown the Beef

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 3

    Add the Vegetables

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

  3. 4

    Combine the Sauce Ingredients

Stir in the canned tomato sauce, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Preparing the Cheese Mixture

  1. 5

    Mix the Cheese Ingredients

In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, grated Parmesan cheese, salt, black pepper, and chopped parsley. Mix until well combined.

Assembling the Lasagna

  1. 6

    Layer the Ingredients

In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a small amount of meat sauce on the bottom. Layer 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce, then spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by a third of the meat sauce. Repeat the layers, ending with noodles topped with the remaining meat sauce.

  2. 7

    Add Cheese Topping

Spread the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top of the lasagna.

Baking the Lasagna

  1. 8

    Bake

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

  2. 9

    Cool and Serve

Let the lasagna cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.
