Method
Bread Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar. Stir gently and let sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Mix well.
- 3
Combine Ingredients
Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.
- 4
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- 5
First Rise
Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
- 6
Shape the Loaf
Punch down the risen dough, transfer it back to the floured surface, and shape it into a loaf.
- 7
Second Rise
Place the shaped loaf into a greased loaf pan, cover, and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- 8
Preheat Oven
While the loaf is rising, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- 9
Bake
Once the dough has risen again, bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- 10
Cool
Remove from the oven, let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
