Method

Meatballs Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, chopped parsley, egg, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Form Meatballs

Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. Place the formed meatballs on a baking sheet.

Sausage Preparation

  1. 3

    Prepare Sausages

Prick the Italian sausage links with a fork to prevent them from bursting during cooking.

Sunday Gravy Preparation

  1. 4

    Sauté Aromatics

In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried basil, dried oregano, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

Cooking Meatballs and Sausage

  1. 6

    Cook Meatballs and Sausage

Add the meatballs and sausage links to the simmering gravy. Cover and let simmer on low heat for about 45 minutes to 1 hour, stirring occasionally, until the meatballs are cooked through and the sauce has thickened.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve

Serve the meatballs and sausage hot, spooning the Sunday gravy over the top. Enjoy with pasta or bread.
