For the Mozzarella Sticks

Method

For the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cheese Sticks

Unwrap the string cheese sticks and set aside.

  2. 2

    Set Up Breading Station

In three separate shallow bowls, place the flour in the first bowl, whisk the eggs in the second bowl, and combine the bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper in the third bowl.

  3. 3

    Bread the Cheese Sticks

Dredge each cheese stick in flour, shaking off the excess. Dip into the beaten eggs, allowing excess to drip off, then coat with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.

  4. 4

    Chill the Coated Sticks

Place the breaded cheese sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes to firm up.

  5. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  6. 6

    Fry the Mozzarella Sticks

Carefully add the frozen mozzarella sticks to the hot oil in batches, frying for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on paper towels.

For the Marinara Sauce

  1. 7

    Sauté the Garlic

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  2. 8

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring to a simmer.

  3. 9

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 10

    Finish with Fresh Basil

Stir in the chopped fresh basil just before serving.
