Method

Prepare the Beef Patty

  1. 1

In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to help it cook evenly.

Cook the Patties

  1. 3

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side.

  2. 4

Flip the patties and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty to melt.

Prepare the Toppings

  1. 5

While the patties are cooking, wash the lettuce and slice the tomato and onion into thin rounds.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 6

Toast the burger buns lightly on the grill or in a toaster, if desired.

  2. 7

On the bottom half of each bun, place a leaf of lettuce, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese.

  3. 8

Top the patty with slices of tomato and onion. Drizzle the special sauce over the top and cover with the other half of the bun.
