Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

  3. 3

    Cream Butter and Sugar

In a large mixing bowl, cream the unsalted butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes).

  4. 4

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then mix in the vanilla extract.

  5. 5

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.

  6. 6

    Pour and Bake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 8

    Beat Butter

In a large bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy (about 2 minutes).

  2. 9

    Add Sugar and Cream

Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing on low speed until well combined. Add heavy cream and vanilla extract, and beat on high speed until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).

  3. 10

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
