Latte Base

Salted Caramel Sauce

Method

Prepare the Salted Caramel Sauce

  1. 1

    Cook the Sugar

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the granulated sugar. Stir continuously until the sugar has melted and turns an amber color.

  2. 2

    Add Butter

Once the sugar is melted, carefully add the unsalted butter and stir until melted and combined.

  3. 3

    Incorporate Cream

Slowly pour in the heavy cream while stirring. The mixture will bubble up. Continue to stir until smooth.

  4. 4

    Finish with Salt

Remove from heat and stir in the sea salt. Let the sauce cool for a few minutes.

Make the Latte

  1. 5

    Brew the Espresso

Brew 2 shots of espresso using your preferred method (espresso machine, stovetop, etc.).

  2. 6

    Heat the Milk

In a small saucepan or using a milk frother, heat the milk until hot but not boiling. If using a saucepan, whisk the milk to create froth.

  3. 7

    Combine Ingredients

In a large mug, combine the brewed espresso, vanilla extract, and 2 tablespoons of the salted caramel sauce. Stir well.

  4. 8

    Add Milk

Pour the hot milk into the mug with the espresso mixture, holding back the foam with a spoon, then spoon the foam on top.

Serve

  1. 9

    Top with Whipped Cream

Generously top the latte with whipped cream.

  2. 10

    Drizzle with Caramel

Drizzle additional salted caramel sauce over the whipped cream.

  3. 11

    Garnish

Sprinkle a pinch of sea salt on top for garnish and serve immediately.
