Dry Ingredients

Method

Preparing the Cake

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

  3. 3

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and white vinegar until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Making the Frosting

  1. 7

    Prepare Frosting Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese and unsalted butter together until smooth and creamy.

  2. 8

    Add Sugar and Vanilla

Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, beating until the frosting is fluffy and well mixed.

Assembling the Cake

  1. 9

    Layer the Cakes

Place one layer of the cake on a serving plate. Spread a layer of cream cheese frosting on top.

  2. 10

    Top with Second Layer

Place the second layer on top of the frosted first layer. Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining cream cheese frosting.

  3. 11

    Serve

Slice and serve the cake. Enjoy your delicious Red Velvet Cake!
