Doughnut Batter

Method

Doughnut Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon until well combined.

  2. 2

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and melted butter until smooth.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the batter should be slightly lumpy.

  4. 4

    Chill the Batter

Cover the batter with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 30 minutes to help it set.

Frying

  1. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter into it; if it bubbles and rises to the surface, it’s ready.

  2. 6

    Fry the Doughnut Holes

Using a small cookie scoop or your hands, carefully drop balls of batter into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown.

  3. 7

    Drain the Doughnut Holes

Using a slotted spoon, remove the doughnut holes from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Coating

  1. 8

    Prepare the Coating

In a shallow bowl, mix together the powdered sugar, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.

  2. 9

    Coat the Doughnut Holes

While the doughnut holes are still warm, roll them in the powdered sugar mixture until fully coated. Set aside on a wire rack to cool slightly.
