Method

Tofu Preparation

  1. 1

    Press the Tofu

Begin by pressing the firm tofu. Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top to remove excess moisture. Leave it for about 15-20 minutes.

  2. 2

    Cut the Tofu

Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes, about 1-inch in size.

  3. 3

    Coat with Cornstarch

Place the cornstarch in a shallow dish. Dredge each tofu cube in cornstarch, ensuring all sides are coated evenly.

  4. 4

    Fry the Tofu

Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the coated tofu cubes in batches and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Miso Sauce Preparation

  1. 5

    Mix the Miso Sauce

In a small saucepan, combine white miso paste, soy sauce, mirin, sugar, and sesame oil. Cook over low heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves and the sauce is well blended, about 3-5 minutes.

  2. 6

    Glaze the Tofu

Once the sauce is ready, add the fried tofu cubes into the saucepan and gently toss to coat them with the miso sauce evenly.

Garnishing

  1. 7

    Prepare the Garnish

Chop the green onions into thin slices.

  2. 8

    Serve

Transfer the misoyaki tofu to a serving plate and sprinkle with chopped green onions. Serve immediately.
