Tofu and Battering

Toppings

Method

Preparation of Tofu

  1. 1

    Pressing Tofu

Press the firm tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top for about 15 minutes.

  2. 2

    Cutting Tofu

Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes, approximately 2 cm each.

Batter Preparation

  1. 3

    Mixing Batter

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, and cold water. Whisk until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.

Frying Tofu

  1. 4

    Heating Oil

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or pot over medium-high heat until it reaches about 180°C (350°F).

  2. 5

    Battering Tofu

Dip each tofu cube into the batter, allowing any excess batter to drip off. Carefully place the battered tofu into the hot oil.

  3. 6

    Frying Tofu

Fry the tofu cubes in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

    Draining Tofu

Remove the fried tofu using a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Topping Preparation

  1. 8

    Slicing Green Onions

While the tofu is frying, slice the green onions thinly on a diagonal.

  2. 9

    Garnishing Tofu

Once the tofu is fried and drained, sprinkle the sliced green onions over the top, followed by a drizzle of soy sauce and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
