For Frying

Method

Preparation

1

Prepare the Shrimp

Pat the large shrimp dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Season both sides with salt and black pepper.

2

Set Up Breading Station

In three separate shallow bowls, place the all-purpose flour, beaten egg, and panko breadcrumbs. Make sure the bowls are large enough for the shrimp to be coated easily.

3

Coat Shrimp

Dredge each shrimp in the flour, shaking off any excess. Then dip it into the beaten egg, ensuring it’s fully coated. Finally, roll the shrimp in the panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.

Frying

4

Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the temperature by dropping a small piece of bread into the oil; if it sizzles and browns quickly, it’s ready.

5

Fry the Shrimp

Carefully add the breaded shrimp to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the shrimp and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Serving

6

Serve

Plate the Ebi Furai and serve immediately with a side of tonkatsu sauce or your preferred dipping sauce.
