Beef and Marinade

Method

Marinate the Beef

  1. 1

    Prepare the Marinade

In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, mirin, sugar, sake, ginger, and minced garlic until well combined.

  2. 2

    Marinate the Beef

Add the thinly sliced beef sirloin to the marinade, ensuring all pieces are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Cook the Beef

    Heat the Pan

In a large skillet or frying pan, heat a small amount of oil over medium heat.

  2. 4

    Cook the Beef

Add the marinated beef to the pan in a single layer. Cook for about 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beef is cooked through and slightly caramelized.

  3. 5

    Add Remaining Marinade

Pour any remaining marinade into the pan and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.

Serve the Gyudon

  1. 6

    Prepare the Rice

Divide the cooked Japanese rice into bowls.

  2. 7

    Assemble the Dish

Top each bowl of rice with the cooked beef and sauce.

  3. 8

    Add Toppings

Garnish with sliced green onions, pickled ginger, and toasted sesame seeds. If desired, top with a soft-boiled egg.
