Method
Rice Preparation
- 1
Cook the Rice
Rinse 2 cups of white rice under cold water until the water runs clear. In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice with 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 18-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed. Fluff with a fork and set aside.

Gravy Preparation
- 4
Make the Gravy
In a saucepan, bring 2 cups of beef broth to a simmer. In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water to create a slurry. Slowly whisk the slurry into the simmering broth along with 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, and cook until the gravy thickens, about 3-5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Egg Preparation
- 5
Fry the Eggs
In a separate frying pan, heat a little oil over medium heat. Crack 2 eggs into the pan and fry to your desired doneness, about 3-4 minutes for sunny-side-up. Remove from heat.
Assembly
- 6
Assemble the Loco Moco
On a plate, place a scoop of cooked rice, followed by a hamburger steak patty, then top with sautéed onions. Pour the thick brown gravy over the top and finish with a fried egg. Garnish with chopped green onions. Serve immediately.
