Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it reaches the right temperature while you prepare the cake batter.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 cups of granulated sugar, 3 cups of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1.5 tsp of baking powder, 1.5 tsp of baking soda, and 1 tsp of salt. Whisk together until well combined.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

To the dry ingredients, add 2 large eggs, 1 cup of whole milk, 1 cup of vegetable oil, and 2 tsp of vanilla extract. Mix on medium speed until smooth and well incorporated.

  4. 4

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in 1 cup of boiling water until the batter is well combined. The batter will be thin.

  5. 5

    Prepare the Pans

Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans to prevent sticking.

  6. 6

    Pour Batter and Bake

Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Serving Preparation

  1. 8

    Serve the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Top with your favorite frosting, if desired, and then place the second layer on top.

  2. 9

    Add Ice Cream

Serve slices of the chocolate cake with 4 scoops of vanilla ice cream on the side for a delicious combination.
