Sandwich Components

Method

Coleslaw Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Coleslaw

In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage and grated carrot.

  2. 2

    Mix the Dressing

In a separate small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Combine

Pour the dressing over the cabbage and carrot mixture. Toss well to combine.

  4. 4

    Chill

Cover and refrigerate the coleslaw for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Russian Dressing Preparation

  1. 5

    Make the Russian Dressing

In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish, and paprika.

  2. 6

    Mix Well

Whisk all ingredients until smooth and fully combined.

Sandwich Assembly

  1. 7

    Prepare the Bread

Take 2 slices of rye bread and lay them flat on a clean surface.

  2. 8

    Layer the Pastrami

Heat the pastrami in a skillet over medium heat until warmed through, about 3-4 minutes. Place the hot pastrami on one slice of rye bread.

  3. 9

    Add Cheese

Place 2 slices of Swiss cheese on top of the warm pastrami.

  4. 10

    Top with Coleslaw

Spoon a generous amount of the prepared coleslaw over the cheese.

  5. 11

    Add Dressing

Spread a layer of the Russian dressing on the other slice of bread.

  6. 12

    Complete the Sandwich

Close the sandwich with the slice of bread topped with dressing, cut in half if desired, and serve immediately.
