Method
Meatball Preparation
- 1
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- 2
Mix Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of ground beef, 1 cup of ground pork, 1.5 cups of breadcrumbs, 0.5 cups of grated Parmesan cheese, 0.25 cups of chopped fresh parsley, 4 minced garlic cloves, 2 eggs, 1 tsp of salt, 0.5 tsp of black pepper, and 0.5 tsp of red pepper flakes.
- 3
Form Meatballs
Mix all ingredients together until well combined. Form the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter, and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 4
Bake Meatballs
Drizzle 3 tablespoons of olive oil over the meatballs. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until they are cooked through and browned on the outside.
Sauce Preparation
- 5
Cook Onion and Garlic
In a large saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add 1 diced medium onion and 2 minced garlic cloves. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
- 6
Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in 2 cans of crushed tomatoes, 1 tsp of dried oregano, 1 tsp of salt, 0.5 tsp of black pepper, and 1 tsp of sugar. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- 7
Simmer Sauce
Reduce the heat and simmer the sauce for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add 0.25 cups of chopped fresh basil just before serving.
- 8
Combine Meatballs and Sauce
Once the meatballs are done baking, add them to the sauce and let them simmer together for an additional 10 minutes to meld the flavors.
