Method
Meatball Preparation
- 1
Combine Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, eggs, chopped parsley, salt, black pepper, and finely chopped onion. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
- 2
Shape Meatballs
Using your hands, shape the mixture into meatballs about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 3
Cook Meatballs
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until browned and cooked through. Remove from skillet and set aside.
Sauce Preparation
- 4
Sauté Garlic
In the same skillet, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and heat over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- 5
Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.
- 6
Simmer Sauce
Let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens slightly.
- 7
Add Meatballs to Sauce
Gently add the cooked meatballs to the sauce, making sure they are submerged. Simmer for an additional 10 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
- 8
Finish with Basil
Just before serving, stir in the chopped fresh basil into the sauce for added flavor.
