Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ribeye Steak

Take the 16 oz ribeye steak out of the refrigerator and allow it to come to room temperature for about 30 minutes. This ensures even cooking.

Seasoning

  1. 2

    Season the Steak

Rub the ribeye steak on both sides with olive oil. Then, season generously with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder on both sides. Press the seasonings into the meat to ensure they stick.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Pan

Place a cast-iron skillet or heavy frying pan over high heat. Allow the pan to get very hot, approximately 5-7 minutes.

  2. 4

    Cook the Steak

Once the pan is hot, place the seasoned ribeye steak in the pan. Cook for 4-5 minutes on one side without moving it to develop a nice crust.

  3. 5

    Flip the Steak

Using tongs, flip the steak to the other side and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes for medium-rare. Adjust the cooking time according to your desired doneness.

  4. 6

    Optional Butter Baste

For extra flavor, during the last minute of cooking, add butter and fresh rosemary sprigs to the pan. Tilt the pan slightly and use a spoon to baste the melted butter over the steak.

  5. 7

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the pan and let it rest on a cutting board for at least 5-10 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute.

Serving

  1. 8

    Slice and Serve

After resting, slice the ribeye steak against the grain and serve immediately. Enjoy with your choice of sides.
