Method

Onion Rings

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Peel the large onions and slice them into 1/4-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside.

  2. 2

    Soak the Onions

In a bowl, pour the buttermilk over the onion rings and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps tenderize the onions and adds flavor.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Breading

In a separate bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Mix well.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the oil is at the right temperature for frying.

  5. 5

    Coat the Onion Rings

Remove the onion rings from the buttermilk and let the excess drip off. Dredge each ring into the flour mixture until well coated.

  6. 6

    Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully place the coated onion rings into the hot oil in batches. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per batch. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Ranch Dressing

  1. 7

    Mix Ingredients

In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, sour cream, buttermilk, dried dill, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until smooth.

  2. 8

    Chill the Dressing

Cover the ranch dressing and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving, allowing the flavors to meld.
