Main Ingredients

Au Jus

Optional Toppings

Method

Preparation of Au Jus

  1. 1

    Make the Au Jus

In a medium saucepan, combine beef broth, sliced onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.

  2. 2

    Simmer the Au Jus

Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add salt to taste.

Assembling the French Dip

  1. 3

    Prepare the Hoagie Rolls

While the Au Jus is simmering, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise without cutting all the way through.

  2. 4

    Layer the Roast Beef

Fill each hoagie roll with a generous portion of sliced roast beef.

  3. 5

    Add the Swiss Cheese

Top the roast beef with 2 slices of Swiss cheese per hoagie.

  4. 6

    Melt the Cheese

Place the assembled hoagies on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve the French Dip

Serve the hot French Dip sandwiches with a small bowl of Au Jus on the side for dipping. Optionally, spread Dijon mustard on the rolls and add pickles if desired.
