Chicken Fried Steak

Creamy Pepper Gravy

Mashed Potatoes

Method

Chicken Fried Steak

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beef

In a mixing bowl, shape the ground beef into four equal patties. Season with salt, black pepper, and paprika on both sides.

  2. 2

    Bread the Patties

Set up a breading station with one plate for flour, one bowl with beaten eggs and milk, and another plate for flour. Dredge each patty in flour, dip in the egg mixture, then coat again in flour.

  3. 3

    Fry the Steaks

In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the breaded patties. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Creamy Pepper Gravy

  1. 4

    Make the Roux

In the same skillet used for frying the steaks, reduce heat to medium-low and add butter. Once melted, stir in the flour and cook for about 1-2 minutes until golden.

  2. 5

    Add Milk

Slowly whisk in the milk, ensuring no lumps form. Continue to stir until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 6

    Season the Gravy

Add black pepper and salt to taste. Stir well and keep warm until ready to serve.

Mashed Potatoes

  1. 7

    Boil Potatoes

Peel and chop the potatoes into uniform pieces. Place in a pot, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  2. 8

    Mash the Potatoes

Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter, milk, salt, and black pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy.
