Calamari Steak

Sandwich Assembly

Method

Preparing the Calamari Steaks

  1. 1

    Set Up Breading Station

In three separate shallow bowls, place the flour mixed with salt and pepper in the first bowl, beaten eggs in the second bowl, and bread crumbs in the third bowl.

  2. 2

    Bread the Calamari

Take each calamari steak and first coat it in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Then dip it into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off, and finally coat it with bread crumbs, pressing gently to adhere.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat until shimmering.

  4. 4

    Cook the Calamari

Carefully add the breaded calamari steaks to the hot oil and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Assembling the Sandwich

  1. 5

    Prepare the Rolls

Slice the twin sandwich rolls in half and lightly toast them if desired.

  2. 6

    Spread the Mayonnaise

Spread 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise on the inside of each roll.

  3. 7

    Add the Lettuce and Tomatoes

Place 2 leaves of leafy lettuce on the bottom half of each roll, followed by 2 slices of tomato.

  4. 8

    Add the Calamari

Place a breaded calamari steak on top of the tomatoes on each sandwich.

  5. 9

    Finish and Serve

Top each sandwich with the other half of the roll and serve immediately.
