Sausage Gravy
Method
Biscuits
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
- 3
Cut in Butter
Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut in the unsalted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 4
Add Milk
Pour in the milk gradually, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.
- 5
Shape the Biscuits
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently pat it down to about 1-inch thickness. Cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter or a glass.
- 6
Bake
Place the biscuits on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
Sausage Gravy
- 7
Cook the Sausage
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground sausage and cook until browned and crumbly, about 5-7 minutes.
- 8
Make the Roux
Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir well to combine. Cook for 1-2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.
- 9
Add Milk
Slowly pour in the milk while continuously stirring to prevent lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer and allow it to thicken, about 3-5 minutes.
- 10
Season the Gravy
Stir in the salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Adjust seasoning to taste.
- 11
Serve
Spoon the hot sausage gravy over the biscuits and serve immediately.
