Potato Preparation

Method

Potato Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the russet potatoes under cold water to remove any dirt. Peel the potatoes using a vegetable peeler.

  2. 2

    Cut into Fries

Slice the peeled potatoes into thin strips (about 1/4 inch thick) to create small fries. Aim for uniform size for even cooking.

  3. 3

    Soak in Water

Place the cut fries in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and makes the fries crispier.

  4. 4

    Drain and Dry

After soaking, drain the fries and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

Frying

  1. 5

    Heat Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  2. 6

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a handful of dried fries to the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown.

  3. 7

    Remove and Drain

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

  4. 8

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt, paprika, garlic powder, and black pepper. Toss lightly to ensure even coating.
